Well… we wrapped filming today, but it was an interesting day.
Quick recap (times are approximate):
Woke up 7:30, Ben answered the wake-up call and immediately hung up, assuring me (quite sleepily that no one was on the line)
8:30 departed for Hesparia
8:35 realized we had no DV tapes
8:40 called infone to get directions to somewhere (anywhere) that might have one, was told radioshack probably opened at 9am and was given some loose directions and an address.
8:45 found radioshack, closed, but across from Sav-On drugs. Sav-on saved our butts by having tapes.
10:05 arrived in Hesparia to find that the mailbox numbering did not include the house number we were filming at.
10:45 got tape head dirty, clean message on camera.
10:50 reviewed tape, noticed NOTHING had been recorded.
10:55 attempted to come up with solution to cleaning heads, used alcohol on q-tip.
11:00 tried camera again, still distorted.
11:05 check tape, note that it is wrinkled, toss tape in garbage.
11:10 new tape no better recording, clean heads
11:15 new tape doesn’t work, old one retrieved from garbage and used with the now very clean heads.
Filming progresses with minimal mishaps.
2:30 teach Beth how to interpret the signals from the radar detector she just inherited from me via Ben. It’s test mode refuses to shut off and is obnoxious. Expecting Ben to get several phone calls concerning this.
2:45 packed up and depart for home, given flowers to take to Julia and flowers to her mother. Car fails to start.
2:50 car is on incline with almost no fuel, assume that changing position will correct, roll down hill backwards into another driveway. Car continues to fail to start.
2:55 attempt to locate fuel source utilizing residents assitance. Unable to locate gas can.
3:00 call AAA.
3:15 big flatbed towtruck arrives with 5 gallon can of gas labled “Not for use in on-road motor vehicles”. Said label is for good reason as it can not be adapted to car’s fuel tank due to safety nozzle.
3:20 a single gallon of gas is transfered to another can and into the car. It starts and gas is acquired at an Arco station.
3:30 food in the form of double double with fries and drink (5 glasses of water and 1 of lemonade) is acquired at in-n-out.
6:00 arrive in Vegas area, note that flowers are dead, attempt to locate replacements. After much effort (time is short to deliver) a vons is located and flowers are acquired.
6:30 flowers delivered to mexican restaurant in Venetian.
6:50 food is acquired at Original Pancake House in Green Valley Ranch.
7:30 film is reviewed, it looks good. Megan calls to say she is coming over.
8:30 Megan (now a blonde with an engagement ring) informs us of her quest to become an evil villian.
8:45 we watch footage from previous days of filming.
10:00 Megan informs us of some problems at the office, we go to look into them.
11:00 no problems detected in any mode in any of the audio visual equipment, one problem in SAR website due to an undocumented IE bug.
11:30 leave office with goal of playing Fable.
11:45 begin playing fable, die horribly on accident.
11:50 Nick calls to say that everything server related is down, Mike reported such and is also on the line.
11:55 Mike notices that it’s his connection as everyone else can get to the server.
11:59:59PM end of day. (er. yeah, do you believe that?)
1:00AM Server is down with 17MB/s bandwidth numbers. Unable to get in via SSH. Call Nick, Call Nick, Call Nick, Call Nick, Nick wakes up
1:10 Nick’s computer finally starts to boot up
1:15 Call PowerSurge, Jeremy informs that it is a box (not us) on the network hammering with broadcasts, he’ll have it fixed shortly.
1:20 Call Nick, Call Nick, Call Nick, Call Nick, Call Nick, Nick answers, his computer is almost booted up. I explain the benefits of sleep mode.
1:30 go to sleep.
