Tree Successful

We survived black friday with a massively discouned 7.5″ christmas tree (artificial fir, LED). Decorating our tree together has, to this point, been the neatest thing in our relationship.

SPR site

Since I’ve just finished up working today I figured I’d post about it. Lately I’ve been putting time into a website for a real estate company. I’ve learned to dislike MLS companies. Anyway this is also an excuse to figure out how to post links from the iPhone.
The test server is (link removed) (forgot that there is no user bits yet, and would rather people not overly mutilate the database)

Insomnia and What to Do

Insomnia is slightly different with an iPhone. Normally there’s are just a few levels with limited options. Now there’s one more.
If one is fairly awake work is a decent option (I’m a freelancer) and I can go sit at the desk and do a bit of coding. More tired, but still fairly awake is the late night tv/movies/games. Then the laptop in bed reading something mindless and stupid (icanhazsleep?).
The new option goes here: poke at the phone. There are whole new levels of sleepy sleep-resistant boredom. I’ve got facebook, photo galleries, audiobooks, ebooks (even War and Peace), and, of course the rather nice worspress app to entertain my handful of remaining readers (Hi 4!!).
So, at amy rate, I’m too tired to even roll over but can’t sleep and am now out of entertainment ideas.

Another Update

Wilson is home, and doing reasonably well. He want into the ER and was admitted with a blood clot in his leg after getting home, though. Too much time with legs down and no movement in the car on the way home.

I’m trying to get out from under all the work that piled up in the last couple of weeks… I feel like I’m drowning. And, of course, more work had to get assigned today.

That’s really about the sum of my life for a bit, I’m at least over the respiratory infection that had me down in the 2 weeks before Wilson went into the hospital.

Life Update

Well, quite a lot of being in poor health, a couple of days of way too much work, and now  I’m up at Hyak having driven my mother up here to visit Wilson who is at Swedish hospital, as a patient.

New Construction

So, I like that they are putting in 5 new houses around me. I’ll have some neighbors… but…

They broke a water pipe and so I had no water some of today.

The backhoe gives me a terrible headache and appears to be why I’ve been feeling lousy today.

Firewire Hubs? Who needs firewire hubs?

I’ve been plagued recently by the lack of firewire 400 (IEEE 1394a) ports on my iMac. To the point of considering getting  a hub… the concept of a hub for firewire annoys me by it’s very nature since firewire is supposed to be daisy chained.

At any rate, my newer external drive enclosures are FW800/400/USB and have 2 FW800, 1 FW400, and 1 USB port on the back. I’d read in a comment on a post by Chase Jarvis that someone had daisy chained the new LaCie drives (1FW800, 1FW400, 1USB) by connecting to the 800 and then adding the second drive to the 400.

Long story short, I now have extra FW400 ports down where my drive arrays live (top shelf below my desk on my left) which is where I  tend to keep my FW400 CF card reader. I even have the open port on my desk from the iMac itself. Life is glorious.

To Boise I Go!

In a foolhardy trip suggested by my mother, I (and my mother) are going to take my cousin’s desk and pick up my bed (going to another cousin since I’ve replaced it in the mean time) and my desk. In Boise. In the same day. In a van.
